Buy A Tree, Watch it Grow From Google Earth

Tree planting Charity for Earth day

Back a few months ago, mybabytree.org started selling the opportunity to buy a tree and watch it grow from Google Earth. I decided to buy one, and now I have just recieved confirmation that it has been planted.

The Email I recieved from my baby tree to let me know that my tree has been planted.

This is really cool. Not only do I get the fuzzy warm feeling that I had a tree planted - I also get to watch it grow on Google Earth.

For instance, I know that it was planted at 6:39pm (Australian Eastern Standard time), it was approximately 23 degrees celsius and overcast when they did it. It was also planted in the Sebangau National Park in Central Kalimantan. However, I also get its exact coordinates! Check this out: (click to enlarge)

The exact time and location of my tree can be found on Google Earth

If I dig even deeper, I can even find out what the sky looked like that time:

Weather according to Google Earth shows that my tree was planted in over cast conditions

Incredible isn’t it?

I’m really going to go and buy a tree from these guys next year if they do something similar.

How to Plant Your Tree

It’s really simple, just head on over to mybabytree.org and you can pay a couple of bucks to have your tree planted, under your name in the Indonesian rain forest.

Did You Plant a Tree?

Tell us about it in the comments, share your name so we can find your tree!
